No 9 Ujimchin Prairie | 乌珠穆沁

The Ujumchin (Ujimqin) Prairie is a typical temperate steppe located in the northeastern part of Xiliin (Xilin) Gol League in Inner Mongolia, with an area of more than 70,000 square kilometers, which is much larger than the total area of Hainan province.

In the 17th century, the Ujimchin tribe moved from the Altay Mountains and settled on the grassland, which was divided into Ujimchin Left Banner and Ujimchin Right Banner. In 1956, the area was separated into Dong Ujimchin Banner (47,000 square kilometers) and Xi Ujimchin Banner (23,000 square kilometers).

Within the zone are vast stretches of natural grasslands and landscapes of lakes and volcanic remains, the most typical prairie scenery in Inner Mongolia. The prairie is designated as national biosphere reserve with typical grassland ecological system.
