Hechi city in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has strengthened management of air quality in the urban area, and strictly controlled the emission of sulfur dioxide and dust since last year, with remarkable effects.
The results arise from the comprehensive treatment project of air pollution, which was carried out in 2017. The project aimed to cut down the emission of air pollutants at the source, including industrial production, construction sites, road dust, straw burning, and oil smoke from restaurants. As of 2017, Hechi had 335 days recorded with excellent or fine air quality in its urban area with a good rate of 91.7 percent, and the air quality in the counties and districts was stably above the national second level.
The city has 635 streams and rivers in all, totaling 5,130 kilometers in length, with the Hongshui and Longjiang being major streams. As a water-rich city, Hechi has organized the project construction of the action plan for water pollution control to achieve the sustainable utilization of water resources. As a result, the water qualification rate of the seven main rivers governed by the nation and the province reached 100 percent, as did the drinking water in the city center.
Relying on the excellent ecological environment, the drinking water industry has been developing rapidly in recent years. Natural spring water brands such as Jiuqianwan Spring and Bama Spring have been widely accepted by consumers and brought Hechi greater economic benefit.
