Diao Ailin, deputy secretary general of the Guangzhou municipal government, led a delegation to Johannesburg, South Africa from Aug 25 to 30 for the 2018 Metropolis Annual Meeting of the World Association of Major Metropolises.
The World Association of Major Metropolises is a global network of major cities and metropolitan areas and allows metropolises to connect, share experiences, and take action on a wide range of local and global issues.
The delegation participated in many events, such as the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of directors of the World Association of Major Metropolises, board meetings, urban policy debates, executive board meetings, and related sub-forums.
During the meetings, Diao met with Michael Müller, president of the World Association of Major Metropolises and mayor of the German capital Berlin, Parks Tau, president of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and David Makhura and Daniel Martinez, co-chairmen of the World Association of Major Metropolises.

The delegation also discussed the economic and social development of Guangzhou and its major achievements, promoting the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guangzhou Award) and inviting all guests to attend the 2018 Guangzhou Award Ceremony.
