All the tunnels of the Hechi-Baise Expressway broke through on Aug 28, and the 92 bridges were completed a few days earlier. The developments lay a solid foundation for the expressway's opening to traffic.
With a total number of 38 tunnels, 32 on the main line, the Hechi-Baise Expressway covers the northwest mountains of Guangxi, where the geological conditions are complex and changeable. Running through the karst development area, the project regions are rich in surface water, which brings high risks of instability. In order to ensure safety and complete the project on schedule, the project pushed forward standardized construction management. Moreover, application of advanced material and new technology improved the durability of the tunnel structures and the pass-rate of spot-checks.
With a total of 92 bridges with a length of 20.5 kilometers, the construction project at the karst development area presents a complex geological environment. Faced with many difficulties, the construction team adopted advanced construction equipment to ensure quality results.
The Hechi-Baise Expressway is near completion with 97 percent of the asphalt lower layer and 87 percent of the middle layer done and the upper asphalt layer completely finished. Additionally, more than 95 percent of the principal part of the house-building project is done as is 53 percent of the landscape engineering. Electromechanical engineering is also fully advanced, ready for overall startup.
