The Port of Dalian in Northeast China's Liaoning province handled China's largest container ship “COSCO Shipping Universe”on Aug 28.
The Port of Dalian lies at the southern tip of Liaoning Peninsula serving the seaports in North Asia, East Asia and the Pacific Rim. It is the second largest container trans-shipment hub in mainland China.
The Universe was independently built and delivered in June by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The ship is 400 meters long and 58.6 meters wide, with a maximum draft of 16 meters, and the capacity to carry 21,237 TEU (20-foot equivalent unit) of standard cargo.
On the ship's maiden voyage, Aug 28, it set off from the Tianjin Port to Dalian, and will pass through several other ports in the Northeast and Southeast areas, as well as Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Greece, connecting countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
