Hunan province introduced Alibaba's rural poverty alleviation project to help in the selling, quality improvement, brand building, and industrial upgrading of the province's agricultural products, and increase the incomes of farmers.
More than 100 agricultural products in the country have become popular since a rural poverty alleviation channel was launched on Rural Taobao, a branch of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. Jack Ma, Alibaba's chairman, has said that the company strives to produce 1,000 dollars per mu through the power of the internet.
At the launch ceremony, 18 counties and cities, including Zixing city, Wugang city, Pingjiang county, Linli county, Lengshuijiang city, and Anhua county, opened their official service stations on the Alibaba rural poverty alleviation channel. Products from these places can not only be traded on the Alibaba e-commerce platform, but are also entering new offline retail channels, such as Fresh Hema, RT-mart, Yiguo.com, and Yintai Retails.
Alibaba Rural Taobao will also support the standardization, branding, logistics, and financing of regional agricultural products. Many agricultural products in Hunan, such as Yueyang's dried fish, Shaoyang's luzhu tofu, Changde's spicy salted duck, Xiangtan's lotus seeds, Xiangxi's preserved meat, and Yongzhou's oranges, have already been introduced to the platform.
Alibaba will also launch the "Taste of China, bite of Hunan" campaign to help sell agricultural products by integrating Alibaba's e-commerce platform resources, such as the Tmall marketing department and Juhuasuan.
Zhou Yue, vice director of the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, said that the event hosted with Alibaba Group is a powerful move to further promote the province's e-commerce poverty alleviation and help agricultural products move out of poverty-stricken areas.
