The Guangzhou land resources and planning commission has recently approved a plan to construct an international cruise terminal in Nansha. The terminal is expected to receive 710,000 passengers with 72-hour visa-free access to Nansha, as well as many internationally-renowned liners which will depart or anchor there.
To develop cruise tourism and high-end commerce, two leading industries, a large urban complex including an airport terminal, thematic hotels, business centers, and duty-free shopping malls will also be built.
The project will cover an area of 500,000 square meters and total investment is expected to reach 7 billion yuan ($1.03 billion). Berth construction is projected to be completed by the end of 2018 and begin operating in 2019.
To improve transportation, the terminal will be equipped with a 4,000 square-meter bus terminal. In addition, subway lines 4 and 15 are currently being planned and will link the area with other parts of Guangzhou.
