The new campus of Jiangsu College of Tourism in Yangzhou will be put into use on Sept 16, the register day of this year's freshmen.

Being the first college in Yangzhou to open its campus to the public, Jiangsu College of Tourism has set up nine entrances around the campus so that visitors can easily gain free access.

As the venue of 2018 Yangzhou International Economy, Trade and Tourism Festival that took place in April and May, the constructers of the campus have applied the standard used to defining national tourist areas.

A landscaped avenue divides the campus into two parts, in the southern part stands seven academic buildings in the shape of the Big Dipper constellation and the northern part is for living, sports and a development center for teachers and students.

Liu Ninghai, director of school affairs, said that camphor trees and gingko trees have been planted alongside the landscaped avenue while the circle formed by its main streets has been decorated with gingko trees.

Representative trees from both the new and old campuses have been transplanted to a square named Gen Hun (spirit of root). The school has also planted the "Four Gentlemen" (orchids, plum blossoms, chrysanthemums and bamboo) in the dormitory area.

"In autumn, local residents will be able to enjoy the beautiful autumn scenery on our 'Golden Avenue'," said Liu. He also said that two tourist routes that contain a land route and a waterway route will be set in the near future based around different tourism elements such as dining and shopping.

The college has also implemented several one-button alarms around campus to address safety concerns. "If visitors or students run into any emergency, they can press the button and have a real-time conversation with the monitoring center of the college immediately," said Wu Kun, director of the Information Center.

Wu said that although the college doesn't have gates, the entrances of the campus and all the buildings, including the dormitory buildings, have installed the face recognition system.

"As long as you enter the campus, your face will be input into the recognition system," said Wu Kun, "The system that has been installed at the entrances of the dormitory buildings will input the information of all the students living in this building. The door will open if the face image it scanned matches the photo in the system."
