The China Science and Technology Museum is the only comprehensive museum of science and technology at the national level in China. It is a science popularization base which helps improve people’s knowledge of innovative and advanced technology. Visitors can learn not only new technologies but also innovative thinking patterns through direct experience.
History
The first-stage project of the Museum was completed and opened to the public on September 22, 1988 and the second-stage was finished on April 29, 2000. The current museum opened on September 16, 2009. The museum occupies an area of 48,000 sq m and has a floor space of 102,000 sq m, making it an important part of the Olympic Green.
Collection
The China Science and Technology Museum has five major thematic exhibitions, namely Science Paradise, The Glory of China, Science & Technology and Life, Explorations and Discoveries, and Challenges and the Future and features a public display area and four special-effect theaters -- the Dome Theatre, Giant Screen Theatre, 4D Theatre and Motion Theatre. A science popularization lecture hall, a multifunctional hall, and a number of laboratories and classrooms are also on site.
