A symposium on the strategic partnership between Shanxi province and the C9 League, an official alliance of nine universities in China, was held on Aug 19.
The event aimed to enhance the quality of higher education in Shanxi through the development of new projects with leading universities in the C9 League.
Lou Yangsheng, governor of Shanxi province, spoke about the province’s economy and gave his views on the development of Shanxi's higher education system at the symposium.
He put forward several suggestions on furthering the partnership with the university league, such as inviting experts and scholars of member universities to join Shanxi think tanks and offer consultations on Shanxi's reform and development, and to jointly build technology development research institutes, colleges and professional development bases.
The provincial government signed an agreement with Peking University after the symposium. The two sides pledged to cooperate in fields such as development planning and scientific application. Peking University and Tsinghua University also established partnerships with Shanxi University and Taiyuan University of Technology following the event.
The C9 League, made up of nine top universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University, was established by the central government to promote the development and reputation of domestic higher education.
Shanxi has furthered collaboration with the league in recent years, making significant achievements in the application of scientific discoveries, training professionals, conducting joint research, and building scientific research bases.
