Moon cake exhibition hall spotlighted as festival draws near

With the Mid-Autumn Festival around the corner, Guangdong Kim Koo Moon Cake Exhibition Hall, the first of its kind in the country, has seen an increasing number of tourists from across the country.

Costing 8 million yuan ($1.2 million), the expo was built within the production base of Guangdong Kim Koo Moon Cake Co Ltd in 2011. It displays all kinds of moon cakes, fillings, ancient moon cake-making tools and tea wares in an exhibition area of more than 1,000 square meters.

To highlight Chinese moon cake culture, bronze statues and oil paintings that demonstrate traditional moon cake making processes, from condiment production to dough kneading and baking, are put on show.

Moon cake is a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival accompanied by tea. Kim Koo Moon Cake was founded by a Wuchuan native Zheng Jinjiu in 1980s and is now one of China's top 10 moon cake brands.

The time-honored brand was designated as a provincial intangible heritage in 2013 and Zheng Rikang, president of the company, was named a representative inheritor in 2014.
