The first International Development Forum for Rice Production (IDFRP) will be held in Changsha county from Sep 6 to 9, inviting experts to discuss the future of rice production.

The opening ceremony will be held in the international rice forum base in Mingyue village, Lukou town, Changsha county on Sept 7.

The forum will be hosted by the China National Hybrid Rice R&D Center, the Changsha County People's Government, and related departments with the support of the UN World Food Program, the China Crop Society, the International Rice Research Institute, and the China National Rice Research Institute.

Nearly 40 academics and experts in the field of rice production from home and abroad, including Yuan Longping, China's "Father of Hybrid Rice", will be invited to the forum to discuss the progress of rice culture and the development of the rice farming industry.

The forum's organizing committee has set up a 200-mu (13.33 ha) experimental base in Mingyue village. The base will display around 50 new varieties of rice, new cultivation techniques for more than 10 varieties of rice, and five to eight rice field ecological cultivation models, which can be visited during the forum.

The forum will consist of several events, such as the founding ceremony of the International Rice Development Forum Council, the award ceremony of the 10th Yuan Longping Agricultural Science and Technology Award, and a research activity in a rice field.
