The 2018 Guangdong Apparel Week and China Liuhua International Apparel Festival kicked off in Guangzhou on Aug 18, attracting numerous renowned designers from home and abroad, entrepreneurs in the clothing industry, fashion enthusiasts and reporters.
The event links fashion and the inheritance of intangible cultural heritages, and bridges poverty alleviation with fashion industry development. While inheriting the fashion, innovation and vitality of the Liuhua clothing culture, it further enhances the brand image of the Liuhua business circle, which it aims to transform into the core of the fashion industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The international apparel event has been held for 11 consecutive years. During this year's event, Yao embroidery, a national intangible heritage, is being highlighted. The clothing culture of the Yao people, also a provincial intangible cultural heritage, enjoyed the spotlight at the opening ceremony as special costume exhibitions and costume design competitions were held.
E-commerce has impacted the traditional clothing industry, but has also brought opportunities for its transformation. This year's festival is actively seeking cooperation with e-commerce behemoth Alibaba to broaden new channels for Guangdong's garment industry in foreign trade. Through online, offline and advanced technologies, the two parties will enhance global exposure of Guangdong's clothing, create new opportunities for the development of the garment industry, build a high-quality development environment, and jointly promote Guangdong design across China and the world.
