Social service stations will be established by the end of October in 170 towns and streets in Changsha to provide professional social services related to social assistance, protection of left-behind children in rural areas, etc.
Changsha has put great effort into improving people's livelihood in recent years. In 2017, the city issued 1.13 billion yuan ($164.34 million) in all kinds of support funds to 712,000 people in need. This year, the city established township and street social service stations in 74 towns and 96 streets to strengthen grassroots services and provide diversified assistance.
The major task of the social service station is to help carry out social assistance in towns and streets, care and protect left-behind children in rural areas, construct urban and rural communities, provide pension services, prevent and mitigate disasters, etc. Each station can also determine its key service areas according to local circumstances in order to maximize effectiveness.
