In the first half of this year, Hechi city in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region witnessed a steady growth in economic and social development.

Over that period the city's GDP totaled 32.5 billion yuan ($4.8 billion), a year-on-year growth of 16.7 percent. The gross industrial output of Hechi's enterprises with an annual main business income of over 20 million yuan reached 20.67 billion yuan, an increase of 24.3 percent. Per capita income for urban residents increased by 6.7 percent and for rural residents grew by 10.8 percent. The growth rates of a number of economic indicators continued to lead, creating the best period of socio-economic development in recent years.

Through the government's concrete measures and efforts to develop characteristic agriculture, significant results were obtained in poverty reduction. Animal husbandry and fisheries achieved an output value of 7.99 billion, up 7.2 percent. Added mulberry fields covering 55,800 mu (3,720 hectares) took the total area for that crop to a new record of 900,000 mu. Moreover, the city set up seven breeding demonstration bases for cattle and 10 for sheep.

As for the industrial economy, it rose sharply thanks to a market recovery, and the industrial added value advanced by 22.9 percent, according to a staff member of the Hechi industry and information technology committee. He added that the city has taken measures to quicken the pace of industrial transformation and upgrading, which has contributed to the development of Hechi's economy.

Meanwhile, major industrial projects expanded in scale of production, and transportation infrastructure construction achieved great progress, including the Hechi-Baise Expressway (to be completed by year-end), the Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Railway and the just approved Liuzhou-Hechi Intercity Railway.

Hechi is devoted to becoming a national forest city and promoting industrial transformation and upgrading to create sound economic structure and green, low-carbon sustainable development.
