The city of Ordos, together with three other cities in Inner Mongolia autonomous region - Baotou, Ulanqab and Hohhot, recently made it onto the 2017 list of top 100 Chinese cities in foreign trade, according to the announcement by the National General Administration of Customs.
Ordos ranked 76th place with a score of 70.2 points, and the cities of Baotou, Ulanqab and Hohhot were placed 33th, 77th and 89th respectively, with scores of 71.7, 70.2 and 69.9 points respectively.
The top 10 cities, according to the rankings of the list, are Shengzhen, Shanghai, Dongguan, Suzhou, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Ningbo and Tianjin.
The list was decided by the National General Administration of Customs based on five major indicators, namely, “standard competitiveness”, “structure competitiveness”, “efficiency competitiveness”, “development competitiveness” and “growth competitiveness”.
To be more specific, 25 sub-indicators play as parameters for the entry into the list.
Besides the assessment of the total volume of foreign trade and the speed of the growth, the evaluation system cares more about the quality and potential of foreign trade development in a city.
