Construction on the Zhanjiang International Yacht City has recently begun in the Zhanjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone, with a foundation pit being dug and soldier piles being erected.
Covering an area of 183,642 square meters, the complex is located north of North Longgui Road, east of Haibin Avenue, and west of Guangzhou Bay Avenue.
Relying on the unique marine resources of Guangzhou Bay, the yacht city is expected to become a new city center, integrating businesses, offices, entertainment, leisure, tourism, and ecological residential areas.
The project will make full use of the 1,120 meters of coastline in the former Xiahai port area and build two berths for 30,000- to 70,000-ton yachts.
Last year, Zhanjiang signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Merchants Group. The latter will invest more than 43 billion yuan ($6.2 billion) into the city during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20) to develop a marine economy. The international yacht city is one of the projects that will benefit from the cooperation.
