Guangzhou and Foshan recently inked a strategic cooperation framework agreement on deepening innovation-driven development.
The agreement aims to bring closer integration of the two cities, according to Guangzhou science technology and innovation commission.
Under the agreement, the two cities will leverage their respective strength and build a world-class metropolitan area in the Pearl River Delta, coordinating with and supporting the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Guangzhou and Foshan will seek closer cooperation in 12 aspects, including the incubation of high-tech companies, the construction of world-class manufacturing clusters, the protection of intellectual property rights, and the commercialization of scientific and technological outputs.
The two cities will also work together in three areas - Guangzhou and Foshan Demonstration Zone for Science and Technology Innovation, West Pearl River Innovation Belt, and Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center.
The first-phase project of Guangzhou and Foshan Demonstration Zone for Science and Technology Innovation has been listed as a key part of a government action plan for Guangzhou-Foshan regional integration in 2018. The two cities will join their efforts in building an incubator for innovative enterprises and a base for the commercialization of scientific and technological outputs in the demonstration zone.
Guangzhou and Foshan will also initiate a pilot mechanism for cross-regional cooperation and take the lead in regional industry collaboration, fin-tech, commercialization of scientific achievements, sharing of scientific and technological resources, as well as the mobilization of talents.
