The first express railway to put bulk northern crops into one container and transport them to the south opened on Aug 9, with a train full of corn leaving the port area of Zhanjiang Port Group First Branch for Jianghua Railway Station in Hunan province.

Zhanjiang Port Group has been engaged in north-to-south crop transfer projects for years. It used to transport crops produced by state-owned grain and food conglomerate COFCO to neighboring areas via trucks.

To further increase efficiency, the company decided to containerize bulk cargo. For customers who don't have enough cargo to fill an entire container, it is a cost-effective solution that provides full-container-load frequency and service.

In collaboration with China Railway Nanning Group, Zhanjiang Port Group put bulk crops destined for the same place in a single container at the port area and sent them to central and southwestern China by rail.

This new system not only achieves a seamless transfer between port and railway, but will also consolidate Zhanjiang Port's status as a hub port in the Beibu Gulf and a pivot port on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
