Indonesian light rail constructed by CCCC opens for 2018 Asian Games

The first light rail in Palembang of Indonesia, constructed by two Chinese companies, was recently put into operation to support construction of a traffic network for the 2018 Asian Games, set to open in mid August.

China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) and CCCC Second Highway Engineering Co Ltd, subsidiaries of China Communications Construction Co Ltd (CCCC), completed the project April 30 this year, having started it on Feb 28 of 2017.

The light rail, with a length of 45 kilometers, has 13 stations. The origin station is Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport and the terminal station is the Jakabaring Sport City.

The 18th Asian Games will run from Aug 18 to Sept 2 in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and Palembang, the capital of Indonesia's South Sumatra province. The light rail will provide about 1,000 job opportunities for local people and ease traffic tension in Palembang.
