Dalian Natural History Museum is a comprehensive museum that conducts research on and exhibits a vast range of specimens. It is located at the beautiful seaside of Heishi Reef in Dalian, Liaoning province.

The museum was established in 1907. It moved into a new modern European style building in 1995. The new museum which covers an area of 15,000 square meters was reopened to the public in 1998. 

There are some 200,000 specimens in the museum, 6,000 of which are extremely rare. These collections feature marine specimens and Jehol Biota fossil specimens, including the unique black whale specimen in China.

Dalian Natural History Museum has 12 halls with different themes, including dinosaurs, marine life, wetland, and diversities of species.

The museum is well equipped with advanced facilities, including touch-screen computers, large screen color TVs , security monitoring system and electronic guide equipments, as well as shopping and catering services. All these create a comfortable and convenient environment for visitors. 

Opening hours: 9 am to 4:30 pm (Closed on Mondays)

                             Entrance closes at 3:30 pm

Tips:

Visitors have to register with valid identity cards at the museum entrance.

Tour groups of more than 80 visitors have to make a reservation, one to 10 days in advance.
