Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd was established in 1898 and is a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, its share-controlling company.
DSIC is the biggest shipbuilding yard in China with assets of 110 billion yuan ($16.09 billion). Over the years, the company has built up its five main industrial segments: shipbuilding, navy projects, offshore engineering, ship repair and recycling, and heavy industry.
Since its founding, DSIC has constructed and delivered over 3,000 vessels and made many breakthroughs in Chinese shipbuilding history with lots of “firsts”, including the first 10,000 dead weight tonnage (DWT) tanker in China, the first missile destroyer, the first export vessel and the first very large crude carrier (VLCC).
DSIC covers 5.12 million square meters and has 10 dry docks, nine slipways, a 14-kilometer-long coastline, a 10-km-lomg wharf and 110 sets of cranes with lifting capacity ranging from 45 tons to 900 tons.
The company has three construction yards, as well as many construction bases like the Shanhaiguan shipbuilding base and Changxing Island ship repair and recycling base. Ten production lines are arranged in these yards and bases, such as steel pretreatment lines and panel lines.
