Xiamen customs has integrated the clearance of goods with inspections in an effort to streamline procedures for the importing and exporting goods in the coastal Chinese city, local media recently reported.
An original 229 application items were reduced to 105, while 74 accompanying documents were amalgamated into 10 and 102 licences were reduced to 64.
Local customs clearance agencies and foreign trade companies are applauding the move.
Wu Xiulan, deputy manager of one Xiamen customs clearance agency, said that the importing and exporting of goods can now be completed with a single system instead of the previous two, resulting in a minimum 50 percent reduction in workload.
In recent years, Xiamen customs has put forward numerous regulatory innovations, including the acceptance of import deliveries by water, to boost Xiamen's economic development.
