The Jilin government has always regarded people's livelihood as the priority in the province's economic and social development. Over the past three years, they have launched a series of civil projects that have significantly promoted local people's well-being.
Minimum living standard security insurance
Qiao Changhong, once a poor farmer, has become the forest ranger of his hometown, Hujia village in Changchun. He and his family now benefit from multiple social insurances. The same case is also prevalent for the Sun family. Thanks to the minimum living standard security system, they are receiving a total of 1,230 yuan ($179) of insurance every month.
The scheme of minimum living standard has helped 635,000 rural residents with an average of 281 yuan per capital a month.
All-care nursing home
Established in 2016, Qinqin Garden is the first nursing home adopting modern ideas of nursing and caring in Changchun, and it has also established great reputation. This is one of the many efforts the government has made to provide elder citizens with the most thoughtful and comprehensive services.
To date, there are over 1,000 social organizations in the city providing care services to more than 3 million customers.
Houses of Happiness
The Houses of Happiness in Songyuan is another attempt made by Jilin government to provide welfare services, where volunteers and senior citizens themselves help the everyday lives of other senior citizens.
Statistics show that by the end of 2017, over 2,790,000 rural residents in Jilin province were over 60 years old. It's essential for the Jilin government to build up a sound system to aid the aged and deal with the aging problem.
Stick to the path
"We have to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between economic development and people's livelihood and continue to improve people's welfare," said Du Wenge, vice director-general of Department of Civil Affairs of Jilin. Notable achievements have been made within three years, but the path to happiness is still long way off.
