Accredited as a 5A-level tourist attraction by the national tourism authority, it is located on the eastern side of Kubuqi Desert and is the nearest desert resort to Beijing and surrounding provinces.
It is 110 meters high with a slope of 45 degrees and the huge crescent-shaped sand hills can create loud echoes. When you climb to the top on a ladder and then slide downwards, you will hear roaring echoes as if an aircraft is taking off near you. If you hold a handful of sand and squeeze it, you will make a frog-like sound. This is how Whistling Dune Bay was named.
