Employees of Power Construction Corporation of China (also known as PowerChina), a leading power engineering contractor, donated cash and goods worth up to 1.63 billion kip ($192,000) in late July to villagers in Laos who were stricken by the flash flood triggered by a collapsed dam on July 23.
As the biggest Chinese enterprise in Laos, PowerChina was one of the first to enter the disaster area to give help.
The company encouraged all of its branches in Laos to give a hand as part of the corporate social responsibility of Chinese central State-owned enterprises.
Cash donations from the company have reached about 1.43 billion kip. Donated goods are valued at about 200 million kip, and include about 200 kilograms of clothes and other supplies.
More relief materials are on the way.
