Total mileage of Guangzhou Metro to hit 500 km

The total mileage of Guangzhou Metro will reach a total of 500 kilometers by the end of 2018 with the completion and operation of another four metro lines.

By the end of last year, the total mileage of Guangzhou Metro was 390.6 kilometers, with the districts of Huadu and Zengcheng newly connected by the city's metro network.

The four lines - line 14, line 21, the Airport South to Airport North section of Line 3 and the first phase project of Guangzhou-Foshan Metro Line - will cover more than 122 kilometers.

On July 30, the Zhenlong-Zengcheng Square section of Line 21 completed a range of procedures including clearance examination and cold slide tests and is now awaiting further testing by the public transport authority. By the end of this year, the line will be open to the public.

At the beginning of this year, the Guangzhou government listed public transportation improvement as one of its 10 major livelihood goals in 2018 and the city is on the move to reach it.

Currently, the overall work on the four lines has is more than 86 percent completed and in addition the city has upgraded 20 public transport routes and opened two new ones to offer more convenient public transportation services.

In the first half of 2018, the average daily passenger traffic on public transportation in Guangzhou was 14 million. There are 14 rail transit lines with a running mileage of 399.4 kilometers and 456 vehicles, with an average daily passenger volume of 7.9 million. The city operated a total of 1,219 regular bus lines with 14,750 vehicles, transporting an average of 6.7 million passengers per day. Fourteen waterborne bus routes, with 48 vessels, offered daily services to 42,000 passengers.
