The city of Guangzhou opened a blood donation house at Huacheng Square, one of the landmarks in the city with a large visitor flow, to counterbalance the summer decline in blood donations.
The facility is situated at the passage from Huacheng Square to Guangdong Museum and has the largest floor area compared to the city's other fixed blood donation locations. It is open from 15:00 to 21:30, the peak time for travellers to the scenic spot.
According to insiders, due to the low number of blood donations in the third quarter, the total amount of blood donated on the streets in Guangzhou is only about half of the daily average demand, and the city is in short supply of A-type and O-type whole blood.
Liang Huaqin, deputy head of the Guangzhou Blood Center, said the house aims to attract donors from both visitors and those who work near Huacheng Square. Blood donators will be awarded with special souvenirs.
