AIESEC members learn folk customs in Guangzhou

Twenty-five AIESEC members recently paid a visit to a Juying Martial Arts Club in Baiyun district, Guangzhou to learn the traditional southern Chinese martial art Hung Ga Kuen and the lion dance, according to reports in the Guangzhou Daily on July 31.

AIESEC, short for international Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences, is an international non-governmental not-for-profit organization providing young people with leadership development, cross-cultural global internships, and volunteer exchange experiences across the globe.

Dragon dance and lion dance are among the the most popular folk activities in Guangdong, and were included among the first national intangible cultural heritages. But with the changing times, lion dance teams are less often invited to perform and young people are losing their interest in the dragon and lion dance culture.

The activity held in Juying Martial Arts Club was a great move to promote folk culture and intangible cultural heritages as it provided a platform to get more people to join in cultural inheritances and make folk culture a new growth point of the cultural industry, commented Guangzhou Daily.
