Output in six major sectors, such as food processing, electric power, photovoltaic materials, and electronic information–backbones of Hohhot's industrial development – registered industrial output of 57.9 billion yuan ($8.5 billion) in the first half of 2018, up 16.5 percent year-on-year.
According to the local government, the six major sectors contributed 82.4 percent of the city's overall industrial output.
Electric power is one of the fast-growing sectors in the city. In the first six months of the year, the sector reported an output of 19.92 billion yuan, an increase of 18.3 percent year-on-year.
As the five phase of the Inner Mongolia Datang International Togtoh Power Generation Co Ltd went into production, the enterprise generated growth of 24.7 percent in electricity production, driving rapid growth in the electric power sector.
Having been known as the "Dairy Capital of China", Hohhot has led the nation in building the dairy industrial chain. With growing output in the dairy industry, the city witnessed a year-on-year increase of 3 percent in the food processing sector.
According to the statistics, the output value of the petrochemical industry reached 14.4 billion yuan, accounting for 20.5 percent of the city's total output.
Since the beginning of 2017, major emerging sectors including the biomedical industry and photovoltaic materials, also registered significantly faster growth in the first half of the year, with output reaching 6.54 billion yuan and 5.59 billion yuan.
With output value of 700 million yuan, the electronic information sector saw a marked slowdown in growth.
