More than 1,000 students from 95 middle schools across China gathered in Guangzhou on July 28 for the National High School Model United Nations China 2018 (NHSMUN China 2018).
Founded in 1975 by the International Model United Nations Association (IMUNA) and United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI), the NHSMUN is a global event that trains students to be open-minded, develops their diplomatic skills and proposes solutions that benefit all parties in the world. The event also helps the young minds shape global vision and develop international competitiveness.
The NHSMUN China was launched in 2017 and has seen the participation of students from many middle schools across China.
Kong Wei, founder of a non-profit fund dedicated to educating poverty-stricken areas, delivered a speech at the event. Kong shared her experiences with charity work, saying that public welfare is a social responsibility and the NHSMUN China is the perfect activity that helps young people shoulder social responsibilities and put their thoughts into actions.
Yao Yiyi, secretary general of Association of Principals of Guangdong Province, also spoke at the event. She said that she hopes that through the activity students can learn to use international rules to tell Chinese stories with logic and language that the world can understand.
