Located in Xining, capital city of Qinghai province, Xining Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved by the State Council in July, 2000.
With a planned area of 108.78 sq km, it is now home to four industrial parks -- Dongchuan Industrial Park, Nanchuan Industrial Park, Ganhe Industrial Park and Biotechnological Industrial Park.
In December 2017, the zone was approved by the State Council as one of the second batch of National Circular Economic Pilot Parks. In November 2010, the Biotechnological Industrial Park was upgraded by the State Council as the National Hi-tech Industrial Development Park. In 2012, the zone was identified as one of the first batch of National E-commerce Demonstration Bases.
The zone is also the only institution in Qinghai province certified to SO9001:2008 and ISO14001:2004. For seven consecutive years, it has been honored as “Outstanding Achievement Awards of Industrial Economy Operation” and “Advanced Unit in Investment Promotion” by the provincial government.
In 2016, the gross regional product in the zone grew by 11.4 percent year on year to 44.55 billion yuan ($6.66 billion), accounting for 35.7 percent of Xining’s GRP and 17.3 percent of Qinghai’s GRP; the industrial added value increased by 12.5 percent to 35.83 billion yuan, accounting for 74.7 percent of the city’s value; the value of industries above designated size was up by 13 percent to 30.61 billion yuan, accounting for 75.2 percent of the value in Xining and 35.1 percent of the value in Qinghai; the overall revenue from technology, industry and trade was up by 11.1 percent to 233.81 billion yuan and the industrial sales revenue rose by 11.9 percent to 120.68 billion yuan.
