Guangzhou's Liwan Youth Symphony Orchestra made its debut on the international stage and won three gold and one silver medals at the 2018 London International Music Festival held from July 16 to 19.
The orchestra consists of 60 students and seven teachers.
The London International Music Festival was originally an event organized by the United Nations Association and British Arts Festivals Association to celebrate the 2012 London Olympics. It is designed for non-professional youth music groups around the globe and provides a platform for them to communicate and learn from each other. It has become one of the most influential youth music events in the world.
Nearly 30 orchestras from China, South Korea and the Netherlands participated in five different venues. The Liwan Youth Symphony Orchestra participated in the school orchestra and instrumental orchestra competitions, performing four of their best pieces to judges, including a percussion quintet and a saxophone quintet.
