The closing ceremony of the Qingdao Shinan Wind Music Week was held on July 20 in Shinan district in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province.
The closing concert was performed by renowned Chinese conductor Zhang Guoyong and one of the country's brightest young talents, Yu Ji. The Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, together with seven bassoon performers from home and abroad, presented a wonderful performance for the audience, bringing an end to the week-long summertime wind music festival.
Held from July 15 to 20, the event was jointly organized by the Central Conservatory of Music, the China Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the Qingdao municipal bureau of culture, radio, television, press and publication and the Shinan district government.
A series of events were held during the music week, including master classes, expert lectures, and an arts summit for presidents of music conservatories and special concerts.
Gathering high-profile foreign performers and world-famous orchestras, the event staged 15 fantastic concerts with different themes.
A total of 21 prominent musicians and instrumentalist were invited to give master classes and lectures during the event, including Hans Agreda, principal contrabassoon for Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, Axel Benoit, principal bassoonist for Lausanne Chamber Orchestra from Switzerland, Sophie Dartigalongue, principal bassoonist for Vienna State Opera and Magnus Nilsson, principal bassoonist for Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra from Sweden.
