The first kitchen waste recycling center in Yangzhou was put into use in the Zhuxi community on July 18.

The center is equipped with two stainless steel recycling bins, which are highly sealed and can prevent the encroaching of insects or leaks.

"We used to mix kitchen waste with household waste, which caused many problems because the left-overs would spill out of the garbage bags and give out bad smells. But with these recycling bins, our problems are solved," said a local resident.

The recycling bins collect waste twice a day and a third-party organization will decompose kitchen waste into bio-fertilizers, changing waste into things of value.

Moreover, residents can use a point card while recycling kitchen waste, of which they will get more of if they recycle more waste, and the points can be traded for daily necessities or property management fees.
