Shenzhen applies to become national forest city

The city of Shenzhen has met 40 requirements required to become a national forest city and it also filed an application for the title on July 17.

A national forest city refers to a city whose urban ecological system is mainly forest that meets the forest standards set out by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration. 

Starting from 2015, Shenzhen embarked on its mission of national forest city construction. Now with 40 indicators including a forest coverage rate of 40.68 percent, a green coverage of built-up areas of 40.68 percent, 15.95 square meters of per capita park green area, 2,443 kilometers of green roads and 942 parks, the city is ushering in a new pattern of green development.

At the same time, the annual average concentration of PM2.5 in Shenzhen was cut to 28 micrograms per cubic meter, making it one of the 10 cities with the best air quality.

In terms of building itself into a flower city, Shenzhen has constructed 23 flower avenues and 79 flower blocks in line with international standards.

Besides, it also takes the approach of afforesting the city in three dimensions while combining urban renewal, river pollution control and landscape renovation to carry out water environment improvement project and ecological restoration project.

Currently, Shenzhen is striving for an entire forest city ecological network and will, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, promote the construction of major ecological projects, such as the China Mangrove Wetland Museum, Shenzhen Flower Valley and ecological corridors.
