The Ordos basketball team secured the championship at the 14th Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Games, which concluded at the Ordos Sports Center July 15.
The city’s men’s and women’s cage football teams won bronze medals at the games, according to a recent news release by a local media organization.
The Ordos basketballers are all policemen from Ordos public security authorities. After six intense matches, they made it to the final, where they defeated the Hulunbuir team to win the championship.
At the final, staff members at the Ordos Municipal Public Security Bureau volunteered to be cheerleaders for their colleagues at the weekends, which greatly inspired the athletes.
The victory by the Ordos basketball team was not the city’s only success, with the men’s and women’s cage football teams coming third in their events.
A total of 19 cage football teams registered for the games. In the semi-final, the men’s team lost in a penalty shootout against the Baotou team.
The Ordos government has been taking measures to promote the development of soccer in the city, and the number of players engaged in soccer has increased a lot thanks to the government’s efforts.
