Zhanjiang and Shanwei were tied for first place in Guangdong province in terms of air quality for the first half of 2018, according to a list recently released by the Department of Environmental Protection of Guangdong Province.
Maoming followed in third place during the same period, with Guangzhou, Qingyuan and Foshan ranking at the bottom of the list. The three cities with the best air quality in June were Maoming, Zhanjiang and Shanwei, while Zhaoqing, Foshan and Guangzhou had the worst air quality.
The percentage of days recorded with excellent or good air quality in the province was 88.4 percent from January to June, and 88.6 percent in June alone.
Ozone and PM 2.5 were the two major pollutants in Guangdong. The average concentration of PM2.5 was 34 micrograms per cubic meter in the first half of the year, the same as last year. The figure was 20 micrograms per cubic meter in June, up 17.6 percent year-on-year.
