Shanzhou Cave Dwellings in Sanmenxia were recently listed as a provincial cultural demonstration base by the Cultural Department of Henan Province.
Initiated in 2005 and held every other year, the selection of demonstration base aims to reinforce the competitiveness of cultural enterprises in Henan. This year, altogether 29 enterprises in the province were granted the honor.

Shanzhou Cave Dwellings are located at the junction of provinces of Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan. It is renowned for square or rectangular dwellings that are sunk into the ground.
The cave dwellings show the folk customs and cultural characteristics of the three provinces. More than 100 existing cave dwellings are known as the best scenic spots, and are divided into three parts - ecological sightseeing zone, core tourism spots and leisure resort. They will meet the needs of tourists, and offer them a different experience of western Henan.

The recently acquired title will quicken Shanzhou Silo-cave's application to the World Cultural and Natural Heritage list. Meanwhile, it will push forward the transformation and upgrading of cultural industry in Shanzhou.
