Two fixed blood donation cabins were opened at Nanhua Pedestrian Street in Chikan district and Guangbai Plaza in Xiashan district on July 12 to promote blood donation and ease the shortage of blood for clinical use.
The 40-square-meter blood donation cabins have room for data collection, physical examinations, blood collections and rest areas. Residents can choose to donate either whole blood or blood components.
Compared with blood donation vehicles, the cabins are more spacious and well-equipped. They can provide a safer, more hygienic and comfortable environment, while avoiding the data errors of blood collection devices caused by vehicle motion.
Since the implementation of a blood donation law, the Zhanjiang government has been dedicated to motivating and organizing citizens to take part. The number of non-remunerated blood donors in the city increased from 21,000 in 1998 to the current roughly 55,000.
Zhanjiang is planning to gradually replace the previous mobile blood collection points with fixed blood donation cabins.
