Northeast China's Jilin province will stage 40 traditional opera shows at this year's Jilin Traditional Chinese Opera Festival, which will be held from Aug 16 to 31 in its capital city of Changchun.
The news came from a press conference held by the festival organizers -- the provincial departments of publicity and culture, on July 10.
A total of 24 troupes from Beijing, Shanghai, Henan, Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Anhui will bring their classic opera productions such as "Long Feng Cheng Xiang (prosperity brought by the dragon and the phoenix)", "Mu Guiying Guashuai" (Mu Guiying Assumes Her Generalship) and Liang Zhu (The Butterfly Lovers) to the city.
In addition, the festival will include Jiju Opera, Huanglong Opera and Xincheng Opera from Jilin province, Liaoning's Laba Opera, as well as the Errentai Opera and shadow play from Inner Mongolia.
The China Pingju Opera Theater and famous artists will be invited to offer an opera extravaganza to fans in the province.
The organizers said they hope to build it into a show center of traditional arts in Northeast China to revive public interest in the old art form and promote Chinese culture.
