A summit for ecological civilization and poverty alleviation was held at Guizhou Minzu University in Guiyang city on July 7 to discuss the establishment of an international poverty alleviation think tank in Guizhou province.
"Guizhou is developing favorable conditions for the establishment of an international poverty alleviation think tank which aims to share China's experience in poverty alleviation with the world," said Zhang Letian, a professor of the Fudan Development Institute.
Zhang Xueli, party secretary of Guizhou Minzu University, said that the summit was of great significance to the development of sustainable poverty alleviation and ecological civilization. Experts and professors from across the world gathered in Guizhou to discuss current challenges and solutions.
According to Wen Tiejun, deputy director of the academic committee of Renmin University of China, Guizhou is an ideal province to host the annual eco forum because it initially proposed the concept of "ecological poverty alleviation" in 1988. The province has made great achievements in this area over the past few decades.
The summit has been a sub-forum of the Eco Forum Global Guiyang Annual Conference since 2014 and became an independent summit in 2018. It is hosted by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, China Agricultural University and the China Charity Alliance.
