The fifth China Baotou International Beef and Mutton Industry Convention opened in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, July 8, with 460 leading companies in the sector attending.
The convention covered production, processing, sales and intensive processing equipment of beef and mutton.
Wu Erbin, vice-mayor of Baotou, presided over the opening ceremony.
According to Zhao Jiangtao, the mayor of Baotou, the city's unique advantages in natural resources and its complete system of processing and manufacturing have created favorable conditions for the development of green agricultural and livestock products. The four major industries – vegetables, potatoes, meat and dairy – account for 70 percent of the agricultural and animal husbandry industry. The conversion rate of green agricultural and livestock products has reached 65 percent.
During his address at the opening ceremony, Zhao called for more efforts to strengthen and modernize agriculture and animal husbandry in Baotou.
By hosting the beef and mutton industry convention, Baotou city aimed to develop a domestic and international economic cooperation platform, displaying products and promoting cooperation and exchanges to boost regional economic development.
Over its five years, the annual convention has attracted the participation of more than 3,000 exhibitors from home and abroad and more than 2,000 buyers. The accumulated transactions and orders hit 30 billion yuan ($4.5 billion).
