The capital city of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Hohhot was announced to be ranked in the first-tier Chinese tourist destinations at a summit in Beijing, on June 24.
The summit, with the theme of "better life, beautiful China", discussed the development of leisure tourism through sharing successful innovative tourism cases around the nation.
The list was based on factors such as geographical location, natural resources, cultural charm, tourism packages, general satisfaction and infrastructure and services, as well as experts' opinions and online poll results.
Hohhot got the honor of "first-tier Chinese tourist destination" cannot leave with the government's comprehensive measures to improve urban environment and increase exposure in recent years, including the upgrading of public toilets.
The 70th anniversary of Inner Mongolia autonomous region celebration activity and the 26th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flower Festival were successfully held in Hohhot last year.
Hohhot boasts profound ethnic culture and history of 700,000-years of human activity. The local tourism boom is seen primarily due to advantages such as comfortable climate, beautiful grassland scenery, convenient transportation and favorable investment environment. The city's tourism revenue currently accounts for 19.4 percent of its GDP with 30 A-level tourist attractions and 32 star hotels or restaurants.
