Bayan Obo mining district in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is making rapid progress in ensuring residents’ access to organic vegetables, according to a June 27 Baotou Daily report.

The district government has been developing organic vegetable greenhouse bases since 2016. The project is backed by government subsidies. It plants organic vegetables and uses organic fertilizer instead of pesticides.

The project is divided into three phases. Currently, more than 5 million yuan ($756,000) has been spent on the project. More than 20 greenhouse bases have been set up with a planting area of 118 mu (7.87 hectares).
