Poverty-stricken families and seniors aged 65 and older living in Tianhua village, Qingshanpu town, Changsha county are entitled to free medical care from family doctors, Changsha Evening News reported on June 7.
Locals eligible for the free care signed a healthcare service agreement with family doctors, ensuring them at least 10 free medical treatment and health care service items.
The family doctor service was launched last August. The service initially covered impoverished residents of Tianhua village, and was expanded this year to include senior citizens who are at least 65 years old.
Doctors' phone numbers, service items and commitments are stated clearly on the agreement. Doctors will rush to aid villagers with health problems.
"Traditional Chinese medicine services have been added to the agreement this year," said Peng Ling, a signed doctor at the village's clinic.
The family doctor service is a livelihood project that not only ensures the quick treatment of sick villagers, but also provides free services such as routine physical examinations, dynamic monitoring, health care guidance, and referral services.
