The first Salt Cultural Festival will take place at Fuzhouwan in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning province from June 27 to July 3, according to a news conference June 20.
The festival is held by Dalian Salt Chemical Group to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the company and arouse people’s interest in the history and culture of the local salt industry.
The seven-day event consists of an assortment of activities, including a salt-themed art exhibition, a photography competition and folk performances. A salt culture forum will be held alongside the festival to discuss the innovative development of the industry.
According to Li Huance, chairman of Dalian Salt Chemical Group, the company aims to combine salt manufacturing with the healthcare, culture and tourism industries to form a new development mode in the next three to five years.
The company grew out of Dalian Fuzhouwan Salt Field, which was built in 1848. Covering more than 140 square kilometers, it is one of the four major salt producers in China.
