Covering an area of 72 square kilometers, Zhujiajian is the fifth largest island in the Zhoushan Archipelago. It is located at the southeastern part of Zhoushan, only 1.35 nautical miles from Mount Putuo, and is connected to the archipelago by a cross-sea bridge in its western part.

As a scenic resort, Zhujiajian is famous for its natural scenery, vast blue sea, fresh air and golden sand beaches. It has formed four tourist themes -- sand sculpture, ecological leisure, fishing folk and Buddhist culture.

It has more than five of the longest sand beaches in East China, such as Nansha Sand Beach and Qingsha Sand Beach. With a total length of about 5 kilometers, it is endowed with spectacular scenery and colorful coastal tourism resources.

Daqingshan National Park means ‘grand green hill’ in Chinese, and the park is often wreathed by mists and clouds. It boasts the highest peak in Zhujiajian Island, at 378.6 meters above sea level, and covers an area of 10 square kilometers. On the top of the peak, one can hear the wind blowing through valleys, and see clouds falling like dragons into a deep water cave. The vast ocean breaks its waves at the foot of Daqingshan Hill, where a 10- kilometer-road takes tourists to enjoy the sands in Niutou, watch the sea in Ruocao, or view reefs in Maotiao and rocks in Peng’an.

Nansha of Zhujiajian Island provides excellent sand for sculpture. China's International Sand Sculpture Festival in Zhoushan has been held every September since 1999. Competitors from different countries and regions create their sand sculptures under a different theme each year.
