Sanmenxia vows to fight ecological destruction

Sanmenxia in Henan province has launched a five-month campaign against ecological destruction which will last from June 1 to Nov 5.

The main task of the campaign is to crack down on the illegal occupation and destruction of forests and wetlands, with a focus on combating illegal logging and deforestation.

The special action is divided into three phases.

During the investigation phase, counties and districts are urged to make detailed plans in line with local conditions to ensure that the actions achieve substantial results.

Officials are expected to raise awareness of forest preservation, promote public participation, solve pressing problems and establish a list of questions to draft further plans.

From June 1st to Oct 31, the second phase will be to carry out the rectification action plan.

Abusers of forest and wetland resources will be punished by forest security, which will be given greater authority in cracking down on illegal activities.

From Nov 1 to Nov 5, during the third phase of the campaign, a comprehensive summary will be compiled which will discuss leadership of the specific rectification actions, promotional efforts, and results achieved.
