A folk art festival aimed at promoting the art of Baotou dough modeling opened in Qingshan district of Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on June 15, according to northnews.cn.
The four-day festival is rich in content, with 30 art forms displayed and some 1,000 artists’ participating. A total of 19 national, provincial and municipal-level inheritors of folk art and provincial level masters of arts and crafts displayed self-created artworks.
The festival received more than 10,000 visitors.
Baotou dough modeling is a traditional folk art originating in Shanxi province. It uses polished glutinous rice dough, painted with different colors, which is then shaped by hand as well as with some simple tools. The folk art has been listed as being part of Baotou's traditional cultural heritage since June 2012.
